The Duke of Edinburgh Award students are working very hard to collect items to go in shoe boxes to be given to children all over the world who may not get presents this Christmas [the boxes predominantly go to orphanages or children living in poverty]. This is a project we have supported in school for the last 20 years.
They will be coming round to form groups to try to encourage everyone to get involved. Here is a link to a Youtube Video showing an example of where your Shoe Boxes end up.
The type of things people could bring in are:
- sweets
- toiletries: soap, toothbrush, hairbrush, etc [no liquid – but toothpaste seems okay]
- toys
- stationery
- games
- hats, scarves and gloves
The deadline for us finishing the boxes is Tuesday 24th November. The D of E students will then take the boxes to the local depot – which is a fascinating trip in itself.
I hope this is something you could all support … and thanks in advance for your help! – Miss Wallis
