Boys from Y7 competed yesterday afternoon in a 7 a side rugby tournament at Wallsend RFC against teams from Churchill and Heaton Manor Schools. The attitude, effort and resilience shown by students as a whole was commendable and the two Burnside teams competing came away with 2 wins, 3 draws and only a single defeat.
It was too difficult to single out an individual as player of the tournament, but Wallsend coaches and staff from other schools praised in particular; the tenacious running of Kyle Charlton, the tackling and breakdown work of Jack Newton, the offloading ability of Jay Jabari and the speed of Johnathan Lovejoy.
Any students at Burnside interested in playing rugby are invited by Wallsend RFC to attend training on Tuesday nights from 6-7pm and on Sunday mornings from 10-11am at St Peter’s Playing Fields. New players are always made to feel welcome. (See www.wallsendrfc.co.uk of Wallsend RFC facebook page for further details)
Well done to all students involved!
