Birds! Birds! Birds!
Despite the freezing conditions, Burnside students gathered together to spot some familiar birds, taking part in Miss Wallis’ Big Burnside Birdwatch of 2017. The Burnside ‘twitchers’ were spotting our feathered friends all around the school grounds on the 27th of January this year.
The Burnside BBC School Report team interviewed some of the bird watchers and found out some interesting information’¦
Many of the students stated that they felt birdwatching was very enjoyable, however when the cold weather arrived the number of birds decreased significantly which made them a rarity in Burnside’¦ but not an impossibility.
Vix Wallis, teacher at Burnside who organised the bird watching event said, ‘if the birds are not well fed they can leave the area for good. This means you will only be able to see common blackbirds and magpies. We can’t wait for summer to come and bring lots of different birds with it! This event is a national event today and students all over the country are taking part. We’re glad out students could be part of it and enjoy the wildlife here at Burnside.’
