On-Site COVID Testing & Return to school

17th December 2021Andrew Gray

On-Site COVID Testing & Return to school

Due to lateral flow testing there will be slightly different arrangements in place at the start of the year:

Monday 3rd January: School closed (bank holiday)
Tuesday 4th January: School closed (staff training day)
Lateral flow testing for years 10, 11, 12 & 13
Wednesday 5th January: School open to years 10, 11, 12 & 13
Lateral Flow Testing for 7, 8 & 9
Thursday 6th January: School open to all students

Lateral flow testing:

Where parents/carers have already informed us their child will attend school for a lateral flow test in January, we ask that they attend school at the following times:

Tuesday 4th January:

    • 10.15am Year 10 students (please do not arrive before 10.15am)
    • 12.15am Year 11 students
    • 2.15pm Year 12 and 13 students

Wednesday 5th January:

    • 8.30am Year 7 students
    • 12.30am Year 8 students
    • 1.00pm Year 9 students

It is recommended that anyone who has tested positive in the 90 days prior to these dates does not take a lateral flow test.  Likewise, anyone with COVID symptoms should not attend and should instead follow national guidance.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind our school community to continue to take twice weekly lateral flow tests during the Christmas holidays and report their results through the national reporting system.  This is particularly important just prior to returning to school.

Message to Parents/Carers

9th December 2021Andrew Gray

As you will be aware the government has announced that the use of face coverings is now mandatory in schools.  As such, we are asking parents/carers to ensure that their child brings a face covering to use in school.

Face coverings must be worn by students, staff and visitors in communal areas such as corridors, dining areas (except when eating and drinking) and when entering indoor areas from outside.  Face coverings are not recommended to be used in classrooms.

We ask everyone to help keep our school community safe and therefore all students, unless exempt, will be expected to wear a face covering as outlined.  If your child has a valid medical exemption please get in touch with their Progress Leader to discuss this further.

Face coverings are also mandatory on public transport including the scholars bus.

Use of Face Coverings in School

29th November 2021Andrew Gray

As you may have read or heard over the weekend the government has updated guidance for schools about the use of face coverings. In line with this guidance, we strongly recommend students bring a face covering to school to be worn outside of the classroom in corridors and communal areas. This includes when entering the blocks at lesson changeover and when entering the dining hall.

This recommendation also applies to transport for those who travel to school by public transport or on the scholars bus.

We would be grateful if you would ensure your child has a face covering for use in school unless they are exempt.

Coronavirus Updates

Remote learning in place for year 8 for the remainder of this week

15th June 2021Andrew Gray

We are currently experiencing significant teaching staff shortages in school. This is due mainly to a large number of staff receiving NHS alerts to self-isolate, or having children of their own who have been directed to self isolate. In total we anticipate that around a third of teaching staff will be unavailable at points this week.

Whilst I do not want our students to miss any more learning given the past year, I also have to balance this with ensuring that the site can operate safely given the absence of so many adults in the building.

With this in mind we will be closing for in person teaching to year 8 for the remainder of the week. Students will be able to access their full lessons online with their teachers from home during this time. All other year groups should attend as normal.

I would like to make clear that this is not linked to cases in school, which remain very low, and that there is no increased risk to anyone in school.

I will continue to keep parents informed this week and will provide an update in the parent bulletin on Friday.

Covid Home Testing Letter

17th March 2021Andrew Gray

17.03.2021

COVID Home Testing

Following lateral testing in school students will start to bring testing kits home.  It is requested that students carry out two tests per week at home, 3-5 days apart, starting from the last test carried out in school.

Students will only be issued with a home testing kit once they have completed three tests in school.

In line with current Public Health and Government guidance, a positive test result received at home will require self-isolation.  A positive test result will also require a confirmatory PCR test which can be carried out at one of the local COVID testing centres.

Any student who has been vaccinated is still recommended to carry out home testing following their three tests in school.

Please note the leaflet inside the test kit should be ignored.  A separate A5 explanatory leaflet will be provided that gives detailed instructions of how to carry out the test and register the result with NHS Test and Trace.  Schools have also been asked to collect results.  Please inform school of the result of home testing using this App: https://covid.burnsidecollege.org.uk

If you have any queries or concerns please contact the school office.
