Proposal to Change the Published Admissions Criteria of Burnside College with effect from the Academic Year 2026/27
Why are we making these proposals?
Burnside College works closely with NE Coaching to provide a bespoke programme of football coaching through the school’s Football Academy for students who demonstrate an aptitude for football. This offer is embedded into the curriculum and the school aims to support students in achieving academic success whilst further developing their football skills. Coaches from NE Coaching are based at Burnside College full-time and provide a fully integrated package of coaching and mentoring to students within the Football Academy.
We are proposing changes to the school’s admissions criteria to enable young people who demonstrate an aptitude for football to attend Burnside College’s Football Academy and benefit from its bespoke offer.
Why are we consulting on this?
Schools must consult on proposed changes to their admission arrangements:
- At least once every seven years; and
- When certain changes are proposed to their admission arrangements
We are required to consult because of the type of change we are proposing.
Next Steps
We are keen to hear from stakeholders about the potential impact of the changes we are
proposing. The school will consider any feedback submitted about this consultation and then
