Cycling is always a popular option when children are asked how they like to travel to and from school. At Burnside College we recognise that this is an excellent way to add exercise into the daily routine as well as being an eco-friendly way of travelling. We would like to encourage more of our young people to cycle or walk to school, especially given the current guidelines around using public transport.
To ensure that students are safe travelling to and from school we want students to look after their bikes and maintain it to a good, roadworthy condition whilst observing cycle safety. We strongly advise that students wear a helmet at all times when cycling to and from school and follow the laws of the road.
Last term we successfully launched the Cycle to School Pass and we will be continuing this in September. Students should continue to use the Cycle to School Pass that was issued in them in February.
If any student would like to get a Cycle to School Pass to bring their bicycles to school and use the bike sheds then complete the Cycle to School Contract and return to your childâs Progress Leader.
To ensure that all students, including those that donât cycle to school, are safe at all times whilst on the school site, students must dismount and walk their bicycles to the bike sheds. Bicycles are the personal belongings of students and must be securely stored within the bike sheds.
