Yasin Khan and Lauren Collins in Year 9 have been attending the Royal Institution Computer Science Masterclasses at St Cuthbert’s High School.
Mrs Morris attended on Saturday and students worked with an industry specialist from British Rail who taught them all about the systems life cycle, algorithm design and the importance of testing.
We are extremely impressed with the students’ dedication and willingness to give up SIX of their Saturday mornings! Well done Yasin and Lauren.

This week a number of our students enjoyed a trip to the Theatre Royal in Newcastle to see the hit musical ‘Sister Act’. The show follows the story of the lounge singer Deloris Van Cartier who is sent to stay at a convent for her own safety. Whilst there she ends up transforming the convent’s choir. Some of our Year 10 Textiles students have been working hard this year towards their ‘This Is Creative Enterprise’ award, starting the first day of the Create Stage at Sunderland University this week.
Students started the day finding out about their project; coming up with creative fashion designs for Pier 74, a local company based at the Mushroom Works in the Ouseburn Valley. Pier 74 create new products by reusing denim, tweed and leather fabrics which would have been otherwise destined for landfill. The students were tasked with creating a range of denim dungarees using reclaimed fabric.
It was a fantastic day for the students involved, allowing them to be creative and giving them insight in to the different career opportunities available to them within the creative industries.
