Students in year 12 had an amazing opportunity to visit the RVI anatomy and physiology labs in November this year, enabling students to get a real insight into the complexities of the workings of the human body.
In an exclusive trip students were shown the mechanisms of the heart and lungs, the complexity of tendons and ligaments allowing movement in the forearm, knee and hip joints and a rather insightful opportunity to get their hands dirty in feeling their way through the human digestive system. With the help of undergraduate and postgraduate students from Newcastle Sunderland University the students were able to get a real taste for university life when completing a biology related course such as medicine, dentistry and human anatomy.
To quote one of our aspiring medics ‘ĀĀ “it’s not every Friday afternoon you have the chance to hold a human heart” , well it maybe that this opportunity will inspire other students to peruse further study of biology and the complexity of life to produce the future surgeons and medical staff of the North East.
